Five affordable MPV models highly favored in Vietnam: Some priced from just 489 million VND
Here are some MPVs priced under 600 million VND.
Hyundai Stargazer
This is the MPV with the lowest price in its segment.
On April 17, Hyundai Thành Công introduced the 2024 Stargazer, which includes a new SUV-style variant called Stargazer X.
In Vietnam, the 2024 Hyundai Stargazer is officially available in 3 versions, with prices starting from just 489 million VND. The highest-end version is priced at 599 million VND.
After the initial version did not meet sales expectations, Hyundai Thành Công is placing its hopes on the 2024 Stargazer, leveraging its familiar advantage: the lowest price in the segment. Therefore, this model is mainly targeted at service business customers.
The 2024 Hyundai Stargazer retains only the standard (old model) version, with a price reduced by over 80 million VND compared to before. For the first time, two Stargazer X versions are introduced, all imported from Indonesia.
The standard version of the Stargazer only comes with basic features such as halogen headlights, fabric-wrapped steering wheel and seats, and manual air conditioning. The car lacks an entertainment screen and safety technology is limited to rear sensors, electronic brake-force distribution, ABS, but does not include electronic stability control.
The X premium version adds safety technologies from the ADAS package, including forward collision warning, front/rear collision braking assistance, blind-spot collision avoidance braking, lane-keeping assistance, cruise control, and more.
Mitsubishi Xpander
The Mitsubishi Xpander sold in Vietnam comes in 3 versions: Xpander MT, Xpander AT, and Xpander AT Premium. Prices are as follows: Xpander MT manual at 560 million VND, Xpander AT Eco at 598 million VND, and Xpander AT Premium at 658 million VND. There is also the Xpander Cross version priced at 698 million VND.
The Xpander features a 1.5-liter engine, delivering 104 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission.
Currently, this model is listed at a very attractive price, with a youthful, modern, and appealing design. It stands out for its practicality and adequate amenities and safety features. It is considered a perfect choice for customers needing a versatile MPV that caters well to both family and business purposes.
This Japanese model also enjoys special favor from Vietnamese consumers. In the first half of 2024, the Xpander held about 41% of the small MPV segment market share. It is not only the leader in the small MPV segment but also the top seller in the entire market.
Toyota Avanza Premio
With a listed price of just over 500 million VND, the Avanza Premio is considered a "formidable competitor" in the small MPV segment, where models like the Xpander and XL7 dominate.
The new-generation Avanza Premio was introduced by Toyota Vietnam on March 23 and is imported from Indonesia. This MPV is built on the DNGA platform from Daihatsu, with two configuration options: the MT manual at 548 million VND and the CVT at 588 million VND.
The 2022 Toyota Avanza Premio is equipped with a 1.5-liter engine, providing 105 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 138 Nm at 4,200 rpm. It offers two transmission options: a 6-speed manual for the MT version and a CVT, with front-wheel drive.
In terms of safety, the Avanza includes only basic features, adequate for its segment. The car comes with systems such as ABS, electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), electronic stability control (VSC), hill-start assist (HAC), rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and 2 airbags.
Suzuki XL7
The XL7 2024 is a mid-cycle upgrade, imported from Indonesia.
In Vietnam, the 2024 Suzuki XL7 is officially available in a single version, with a listed price of 599 million VND.
The 2024 Suzuki XL7 features significant upgrades, particularly regarding the engine. It is equipped with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated VVT engine and adds an integrated starter generator (ISG) with a small lithium-ion battery pack located under the passenger seat. This system delivers 103 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm.
With some new equipment upgrades but unchanged pricing, the XL7 becomes more attractive to customers who favor the Suzuki brand, known for its durability and practicality.
Currently, the XL7 is the only affordable MPV equipped with a hybrid engine priced under 600 million VND.
Kia Caren
In Vietnam, the Kia Caren is officially available in 7 versions, starting from 589 million VND.
The new-generation Kia Caren offers three engine options: two gasoline versions (1.5 and 1.4 turbo) and a 1.5 diesel version.
The SmartStream Gamma II 1.5-liter gasoline engine, with 4 cylinders, produces 113 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 144 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. It uses front-wheel drive and an intelligent IVT transmission.
The 1.4T version comes with a Kappa 1.4-liter turbo engine, 4 cylinders, producing 138 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 242 Nm of torque in the 1,500-3,200 rpm range. It features front-wheel drive and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Both versions have three driving modes: Sport, Eco, and Normal.
The 1.5L diesel engine version has 113 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, with CRDi direct fuel injection technology and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Kia Caren's safety features are basic for an urban vehicle. The new-generation Kia Carens includes safety technologies such as 4-wheel disc brakes, ABS, electronic brake-force distribution, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, downhill assist, tire pressure monitoring, and 6 airbags.
