Insurance expert: 'Cars damaged by falling trees after a storm may be compensated up to 100% of their value, but owners need to pay attention to this'
According to an insurance expert, cars damaged by falling trees after a storm can be compensated up to 100% of their value.
Recently, Typhoon Yagi made landfall in the northern region, causing significant damage to both people and property, including numerous trees being uprooted and falling onto roads. As a result, many cars parked in areas where trees fell suffered severe damage.
On social media platforms, many people have questioned whether cars damaged by falling trees after a storm are covered by insurance. To address this question, we spoke with Mr. Nguyễn Khắc Xuân, the director of a car insurance consulting company in Hà Đông, Hanoi.
Mr. Xuân explained that natural disasters are one of the basic risks covered under car insurance policies. Therefore, when a vehicle is damaged due to natural disasters such as storms or floods, or if it is hit by a falling tree during a storm, it will be compensated according to the policy.
He also added, "The clause for compensation due to natural disasters is already included in all insurance contracts, so vehicle owners do not need to purchase additional coverage."
Mr. Xuân noted that vehicle owners will be compensated for the repair costs of their cars. If the repair costs exceed 75% of the vehicle's value, the situation will be considered a total loss, and the owner will receive the full insurance amount to purchase a new car. "The vehicle's value will be determined based on an agreement between the insurance company and the owner," Mr. Xuân shared.
However, Mr. Xuân emphasized that to receive compensation, vehicle owners need to pay attention to a few important points. First, immediately after the vehicle is damaged by a natural disaster, the owner should take measures to prevent further damage. Then, the owner should promptly contact the insurance company via the hotline to request assistance with towing and damage assessment. The insurance company will cover the towing costs, and if the owner arranges for towing independently, they should remember to obtain a receipt.
Thus, in cases where cars were damaged by falling trees due to Typhoon Yagi, vehicle owners who have purchased comprehensive insurance will be compensated to minimize their losses.
