Many imported car models see price reductions of hundreds of millions of dong: Low sales, with some models receiving discounts of up to 500 million dong

Many car models have seen price reductions of hundreds of millions of dong as domestically assembled vehicles become more attractive due to government incentives on registration fees.
Volkswagen Teramont, Teramont X, and Touareg

The Volkswagen Teramont currently has the highest discount in the Vietnamese market. In October, customers purchasing a Teramont will receive a direct discount of 501 million dong, bringing the price down to 1.998 billion dong. This move is aimed at clearing inventory for the new model and making the Teramont more appealing to potential buyers.

At the same time, the Teramont X and Touareg models also benefit from a 50% discount on registration fees, which equates to a reduction of up to 186 million dong.

Subaru Forester

In October 2024, the Subaru Forester is offered with discounts ranging from 100 to 230 million dong, depending on the version. Specifically, the Forester iL is now priced at 869 million dong, the EyeSight version at 929 million dong, and the top-tier iS EyeSight model at only 969 million dong. This promotion runs from October 1 to October 31, 2024.

With prices ranging from 869 to 969 million dong in October, the Subaru Forester has narrowed the price gap with competing SUVs like the Mazda CX-5 (749 - 979 million dong) and Ford Territory (799 - 929 million dong).

Honda Accord

For several months, Honda's D-segment sedan has been offered with cash incentives of up to 220 million dong. However, the sales of this model have frequently placed it at the bottom of its segment and on the list of the slowest-selling vehicles in the market.

The primary reason is that the Accord faces strong competition from the Toyota Camry, along with a relatively high starting price (from 1.099 billion dong) and delays in upgrades compared to international versions, making this model less attractive to consumers.

Isuzu mu-X

The Isuzu mu-X, which often records the lowest sales in the 7-seater SUV segment, continues to receive significant incentives to stimulate demand. Recently, a dealership in Hanoi launched a deep discount program for all four versions of the mu-X.

Specifically, the B7 version is reduced by 100 million dong, bringing the price from 910.8 million down to 810.8 million dong. The B7 Plus version sees a reduction of 113 million dong, from 998.8 million to 885.8 million dong. The two premium versions, Prestige and Premium, are reduced by 200 million and 215 million dong, respectively, with actual prices of 950.6 million and 1.035 billion dong.

According to consultants, this is the deepest discount for the Isuzu mu-X since the beginning of 2024 at the dealer level. Previously, some other dealers also offered discounts ranging from 130 to 200 million dong, depending on the version.

Haval H6

Despite having a listed price of up to 986 million dong, the Haval H6 has recently seen a reduction of 145 million dong, bringing the price down to 840 million dong due to a 50% discount on registration fees.

Moreover, according to a sales consultant at a dealership in Hanoi, the dealership is currently offering an additional 20 million dong discount, making the actual price of the Haval H6 just 820 million dong. In addition, customers purchasing the vehicle will receive several accessories worth over ten million dong, such as window tinting, floor mats, and undercoating.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport

In October 2024, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is being offered with a 100% discount on registration fees for both versions currently available in Vietnam. This helps customers save between 113 and 136.5 million dong on costs, depending on the listed price of each version (1.13 - 1.365 billion dong). Additionally, customers will receive a fuel voucher worth 30-35 million dong, depending on the vehicle version.

The 7-seater SUV segment is still dominated by the Ford Everest, while the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport ranked just above the Isuzu mu-X in sales in September. Competition in the segment becomes even fiercer in October with the official launch of the new-generation Hyundai Santa Fe.

Skoda Karoq and Kodiaq

Both models are supported with a 100% discount on registration fees from the manufacturer. With prices ranging from 999 million to 1.089 billion dong, Karoq buyers can receive a discount of 100 to 130 million dong. For the Kodiaq, which has a price range of 1.189 to 1.409 billion dong, the corresponding discount on registration fees ranges from 119 to 169 million dong.

Additionally, both models come with a cash voucher of 30 million dong and a set of official upgrade accessories, depending on the version.

Ford Explorer

Due to being imported from the U.S., the Ford Explorer faces high taxes, which has somewhat impacted its sales. For two consecutive months (August and September), the Explorer has appeared on the list of the slowest-selling vehicles in the market.

Currently, with a promotion offering a 50% discount on registration fees from the manufacturer, equating to a reduction of about 105 million dong, there are hopes that this will help improve Explorer's sales. However, this discount only applies to customers purchasing the blue and red vehicles, while the white and black versions receive a reduction of only 50 million dong.

Notably, a dealership in Hanoi has offered two Ford Explorers with a price reduction from 2.099 billion to 1.850 billion dong. According to consultants, these two vehicles experienced engine issues when imported from the U.S., and the dealership has completely replaced the engines for both vehicles.

Suzuki Ciaz

A dealership in Quang Tri is offering the Suzuki Ciaz with a discount of up to 104.9 million dong. After applying the incentive, the price is now 430 million dong, compared to a previous listed price of 534.9 million dong.

The significant discount of up to 100 million dong on a B-segment vehicle may surprise many. However, given the situation of the Ciaz in Vietnam, this move by the dealership is entirely understandable.

According to consultants, this discount policy applies only to Ciaz vehicles manufactured in 2022 at the dealership, and the remaining stock is very limited.

There is a high likelihood that the Ciaz will withdraw from the Vietnamese market soon. First, this model has not appeared in the product lineup of Suzuki Vietnam since June 2024. Second, the Suzuki factory in Thailand is set to close, and the vehicles sold in Vietnam are currently imported from Thailand. However, Suzuki has yet to make an official statement confirming this.
