5 most fuel-efficient new cars launched in Vietnam this year
In 2024, numerous new hybrid models have flooded the Vietnamese market, becoming an ideal choice for users seeking fuel efficiency, smooth operation, and independence from charging infrastructure.
As charging stations remain limited, hybrid vehicles are becoming increasingly popular, with many new models and upgraded versions featuring hybrid options, mostly self-charging hybrids.
Hybrids stand out for their fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and electric driving mode like EVs without the need for charging stations. Below are five newly launched hybrid models this year with impressive fuel efficiency.
Toyota Camry
The new-generation Toyota Camry, launched at the end of October 2024, now offers two hybrid variants (up from just one previously). The prices have increased significantly, with the base hybrid model priced at 1.46 billion VND and the top-end version at 1.53 billion VND.
The new Camry hybrid is equipped with a 2.5L engine paired with an electric motor, along with an upgraded lithium-ion battery replacing the previous NiMH type. The hybrid system delivers a total power output of approximately 231 horsepower.
While official fuel consumption figures for Vietnam are yet to be announced, comparable configurations in the U.S. report about 4.4 liters/100 km in urban areas and 4.7 liters/100 km on highways.
Toyota Corolla Cross
The 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross facelift now comes in only two variants, with the top-end model being a hybrid priced at 905 million VND.
This vehicle uses a 1.8L engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of about 170 horsepower.
According to the manufacturer, the hybrid variant consumes just 3.01 liters/100 km in urban driving and 3.67 liters/100 km in mixed conditions, making it even more fuel-efficient than the Honda SH 350i scooter, which consumes about 3.63 liters/100 km.
Honda CR-V
The new-generation Honda CR-V was launched in Vietnam this year, marking the debut of its hybrid version, priced at 1.259 billion VND.
The CR-V e:HEV RS variant features a 2.0L gasoline engine combined with an electric motor, delivering a total output of 204 horsepower.
According to the manufacturer, the hybrid CR-V consumes 4.45 liters/100 km in urban areas and 4.95 liters/100 km in mixed driving conditions.
Honda Civic
The Honda Civic has also received its first hybrid variant, though this is a facelifted version rather than a completely new generation like the CR-V. The Civic hybrid is priced at 999 million VND.
The Civic e:HEV RS version is equipped with a 2.0L gasoline engine paired with an electric motor, similar to the CR-V, producing a total power output of 200 horsepower.
According to the manufacturer, the Civic hybrid consumes 4.54 liters/100 km in urban driving and 4.56 liters/100 km in mixed conditions.
Haval Jolion
The Haval Jolion has made its debut in Vietnam with two hybrid variants. While the vehicle is currently displayed at dealerships, it has not been officially launched. The standard variant is priced at 695 million VND, as announced by dealerships.
The Jolion hybrid features a 1.5L engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a total output of 188 horsepower. Unlike Japanese models, the Jolion uses a dual-clutch transmission.
According to the manufacturer, the Jolion hybrid consumes just 4.2 liters/100 km in urban areas and approximately 5 liters/100 km in mixed conditions.
