The list of unbeatable car models in Vietnam 2024: Some models surpass competitors by up to 25,000 units
VinFast VF 5, Mitsubishi Xpander, Ford Ranger, Mazda CX-5, and Ford Everest stand out with exceptional sales, leaving their competitors far behind in their respective segments.
The Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), Hyundai Thành Công, and VinFast have announced their sales results for December 2024, setting the rankings for the entire year of 2024.
The results show intense competition in several segments such as B-segment sedans, C-segment sedans, and B-segment SUVs. However, some models have proven to be superior to their competitors in their respective segments. These models have dominated their categories, with sales figures surpassing the second place by more than 3,600 units in 2024, equivalent to over 300 units per month.
VinFast VF 5 – 32,000 units
The A-segment SUV category in Vietnam currently includes only 4 models: VinFast VF 5, Kia Sonet, Toyota Raize, and Hyundai Venue. Among them, the VF 5 recorded 32,000 units delivered to customers last year, surpassing the Kia Sonet, which sold 24,687 units in second place. VinFast's model captured more than 65% of the market share in the A-segment SUV category in 2024.
Regarding pricing, the VinFast VF 5 Plus is priced at VND 480 million if the customer opts for battery rental and VND 540 million if they purchase the battery. The car is equipped with an electric motor delivering 134 horsepower and 135 Nm of torque. Its battery allows a range of up to 326 km per charge.
Mitsubishi Xpander – 19,498 units
The Japanese MPV sold 19,498 units last year, surpassing the Toyota Veloz Cross with 11,157 units in second place. In the MPV segment, the Xpander holds a 34.5% market share. With this achievement, the Mitsubishi Xpander has maintained its position as the best-selling gasoline vehicle for the second consecutive year.
In Vietnam, the Xpander is sold in two versions: Xpander and Xpander Cross, with five variant options. The price of the Xpander ranges from VND 560 to 658 million, while the Xpander Cross is priced from VND 698 million. This model is equipped with a 1.5L gasoline engine delivering 105 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque.
Ford Ranger – 17,508 units
In recent years, the Ford Ranger has consistently proven its dominance in the pickup truck segment in Vietnam. In 2024, this model sold 17,508 units nationwide, far surpassing the Mitsubishi Triton, which had a gap of up to 14,821 units. The Ranger holds over 75% of the market share in the pickup truck category in 2024.
Currently, the Ford Ranger is available in 7 versions, with prices ranging from VND 669 million to VND 1.299 billion. All versions are equipped with a 2.0L diesel engine, offering power outputs from 170 to 210 horsepower and torque ranging from 405 to 500 Nm, with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive systems.
Mazda CX-5 – 14,781 units
The Mazda CX-5 continued to achieve significant success with 14,781 units sold in Vietnam in 2024. This model leads the C-segment SUV category with a market share of 36.4%. Compared to the second-place Ford Territory, the CX-5 created a gap of 6,656 units.
In Vietnam, the Mazda CX-5 is assembled and distributed by THACO Auto in 7 versions, priced from VND 729 million to VND 959 million. The car offers two engine options: a 2.0L gasoline engine with 154 horsepower and a 2.5L gasoline engine with 188 horsepower.
Ford Everest
In 2024, the Ford Everest became the best-selling 7-seat SUV-CUV in Vietnam, with 10,841 units delivered to customers. Compared to the Hyundai Santa Fe in second place, the Everest outperformed it with a sales lead of over 3,900 units. The Ford Everest captured 41.6% of the market share in its segment last year.
The Ford Everest is available in 5 versions, with the base Ambiente model featuring a 170-horsepower engine, a 6-speed transmission, and rear-wheel drive, priced at VND 1.099 billion. The top Platinum version is equipped with a 210-horsepower engine, a 10-speed transmission, all-wheel drive, and is priced at VND 1.545 billion.
