Volvo EX30 Cross Country debuts: 427 km range per charge, premium features for wealthy off-road enthusiasts
The Volvo EX30 now comes in an off-road Cross Country version with increased ground clearance and various features designed for multi-terrain driving.
The Volvo EX30, the brand’s smallest electric SUV, has just been introduced in the Cross Country variant, geared towards off-road capabilities. This marks Volvo’s first Cross Country model in seven years and the first time the designation has been applied to an SUV—previously exclusive to sedans and wagons. It is also the first Cross Country model to feature a fully electric powertrain.
Looking ahead, Volvo plans to expand its off-road lineup at a faster pace. Potential candidates for this treatment include the upcoming EX90 electric SUV and the ES90 sedan.
Compared to the standard model, the Volvo EX30 Cross Country features an increased ground clearance of 19 mm, thanks to an upgraded suspension system and larger 19-inch tires mounted on rugged off-road wheels. The side mirrors have been redesigned to match the vehicle’s new height. Additionally, the steering system, shock absorbers, and springs have been tuned to enhance comfort for passengers, even on rough terrain.
The vehicle’s range has slightly decreased from 460 km to 427 km per full charge, while fast-charging time from 10% to 80% remains at 26 minutes. The powertrain remains unchanged, with dual electric motors delivering 422 hp and 543 Nm of torque, paired with a 64 kWh battery.
In terms of design, the Volvo EX30 Cross Country features new protective cladding at the front and rear, widened fender arches to accommodate the larger wheels and tires, and dark trim on the front bumper and tailgate. Interior details haven’t been specified, but it is expected to remain largely the same, with the 12.3-inch central touchscreen as the main focal point, given the absence of a digital instrument cluster.
Additionally, Volvo has introduced a “Cross Country Experience” package, which includes a roof rack, mudguards, newly designed 18-inch wheels, all-terrain tires, and an auxiliary cargo box.
Pricing details have not yet been announced. Volvo will reveal them when order books open in May.
